On a bitterly cold evening, the Year 7 football team travelled to North Leamington School for their first league game of the season.
The team started brightly and went 1-0 up after a driving run from Harry forced a good save before Ronan tucked away the rebound. Southam continued to press and were unlucky not to go 2 goals up after neat passing created another good chance. The second goal came on 13 minutes, a through ball from Josh resulted in Ronan striking into the corner. Soon after, Ronan grabbed his hat trick in fortunate circumstances. Ronan chased the goalkeeper down who kicked the ball off him before bouncing into the empty net!!
NLS responded and scored with a well taken curling shot into the far corner. Southam continued to play good football with Noah and Oli in midfield and nearly scored their 4th after a great corner from Oli was brilliantly headed by Charlie but the NLS goalkeeper made a great save. Half time 3-1.
Southam scored early in the second half. Harry got his rewards for his hard work after Joe’s brilliant strike was well saved before another tap in!
NLS got back into the game and scored 2 quick goals to bring the game back to 4-3. At this point Southam were on the ropes but a few brilliant saves from Jasper and some solid defending from Fred, Sam, Maxton and Charlie ensured NLS didn’t score again.
The final goal of a crazy game was scored by Joe after a nice turn and shot which ensured a good 5-3 win.
Overall, a very pleasing start to the league campaign and every player was brilliant in the freezing conditions.
Well done lads
Training continues on Monday. See you there!
