Year 7 Football

On Friday afternoon, the year 7 footballers hosted Princethorpe in a friendly fixture. The team started nervously and allowed Princethorpe a few early opportunities that were cleared up by Charlie. Southam grew into the game and started to press higher up the pitch forcing the opppsition into mistakes. Southam capitalised on this and played some neat one touch football resulting in a flash volley being sent just over the crossbar. This chance encouraged Southam who took the lead through Josh who scored what can only be described as a wonder goal. A great strike into the top corner. Southam continued their high pressure and this forced the goalkeeper to pick up a back pass. Cue Ronan and Harry combining from the resulting indirect free kick and Harry drilling a ball into the bottom corner. Half time 2-0 to Southam.

The second half continued in the same fashion with the midfield of Noah, Harry and Oli pressing the Princethorpe players into mistakes. Ronan got the third goal of the afternoon after Southam won the ball back through Maxton who squared it for a tap in.   Harry then scored a fine solo effort, winning the ball on the halfway line with a strong tackle before a driving run and a thumping finish into the top corner.  Southam were playing with great confidence and were starting to keep possession and kept building attacks but didn’t score any more goals. Unfortunately, Princethorpe did pull a goal back from a corner towards the end of the game. Full time score 4-1 to Southam.

A fantastic team performance where all players listened to the instructions and tried to play an attacking style of football. Well done boys.

Don’t forget your kit on Monday for the game vs Myton!
