Monday evening saw the year 7 football team play Stratford in their quarter final of the cup. On a bobbly pitch Southam started brightly and tried passing in neat triangles. Southam took a deserved lead on 5 minutes after Harry dispossessed the centre midfielder and then drove at the defence before unleashing a powerful strike into the top corner. Southam nearly conceded straight away but for a last ditch sliding tackle from Alfie K. Tremendous defending. The year 7 team continued to pass the ball around and created a few half chances but couldn’t score another until the 22nd minute. The wait was worth it as the goal was a brilliant team goal starting from Jasper in goal, to Alfie, to Oli, to Noah before a great through ball to Harry who nipped in and grabbed his 2nd of the game. A great team goal and pleasing to see what we’ve been working on at training paying off. Half time 2-0.
Southam continued to play in the same way in the 2nd half and could have scored more but for some good saves from the Stratford keeper. Stratford nearly got back into the game but a wonderful goal line block from Alfie B kept the score at 2-0. Southam did grab their 3rd after a snap shot from Oli was turned in by Joe. Full time 3-0. A very pleasing result with some dominant performances from Archie, Oli and Charlie. Jasper J deserves a special mention for a great first game back after injury! Man of the match goes to Alfie K.
Next game is on Thursday at home to Myton.
Well done on reaching the semi finals
