Thursday evening saw the year 7 football team play Myton in a league fixture. The team started brightly and took the lead through a goal mouth scramble within the first 10 minutes. Southam played some superb football, looking to play from the back with neat interchanging passes through Archie, Alfie and Ronan, Southam should have doubled their lead but for a great save and then the rebound striking the post! Myton got back into the game through a well taken break away goal. Half time score 1-1.
Southam continued to press in the second half and still played from the back but a slight mix up allowed Myton to score their second. This didn’t deter Southam; with Oli and Jasper pressing in midfield, Ronan holding the ball up front and looking to play Harry in Southam had multiple efforts on goal. Southam should have been level but for two fantastic strikes from Harry hitting the upright and bouncing clear! Eventually the equaliser did come with 2 minutes to go, again it was another goal mouth scramble this time tucked away by Leo! Full time score 2-2.
Man of the match goes to Oli, who worked tirelessly in the midfield and always looked to create attacking chances.
A thoroughly entertaining game with some exceptional football played. It was certainly the best football I have seen played by the team this season and we are very unlucky not to have won!
Thank you to all parents and supporters who came to watch, it’s very much appreciated.
Our next game is on Monday against Kenilworth in the semi final of the cup.
Well done boys.
