On a very wet Monday evening the year 8 football team welcomed Northampton School for Boys to Southam College for an ESFA cup game.
The game started badly with Southam finding themselves 2-0 down inside 5 minutes. Southam regrouped and tried to get back in the game. They were nearly rewarded after Josh’s hard work forced an error which then resulted in a very good save. Unfortunately, Northampton used the wet conditions to their advantage and passed the ball extremely well and added a third shortly before half time.
Southam knew that they hadn’t played as well as they could and were keen to improve. They began the second half passing the ball well and created a couple of half chances but Northampton added a 4th goal. This sparked Southam into life and they responded with 2 good goals. The first game after the ball was chased down which allowed Harry to round the keeper and tap in. The second goal came from a quick break allowing Jasper W to square the ball to Ronan to drive a low shot into the corner. Southam felt they could get back into the game and started to force mistakes but they couldn’t capitalise. Northampton added a 5th shortly before full time following a fantastic Jasper J save.
Final score 5-2. Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition. Northampton school for Boys were by far the best team we have played and were a very accomplished and organised team.
I am very proud of how the year 8s continued to play until the final whistle. They showed great effort and resilience in terrible conditions.
Man of the match goes to Josh who worked tirelessly and selflessly all game chasing down the ball. Well done Josh.
Well done boys.
Mr Turton.
