Get out of jail turns into a winning tale as Southam beat Finham Park 40 -0
A large Finham team came over to Southam and played down hill on the Southam pitch. This gave an advantage to them as the bulky, strong side came at the u13’s with aggression and determination. The first 5 minutes Southam had to tackle and tackle to stop an aggressive team. .Joe C was outstanding in his tackling and rucking. It was only a pick up from the 22 by Charlie S. followed swiftly by a more secured ruck 2 minutes later that broke the stranglehold of Finham as Charlie ran in 2 tries with pace and power. An inexperienced scrummaging pack saw the weight of Finham dominate the scrum on several occasions. Never -the-less Callum M battled with Aly M in the scrums to try and gain parity, holding out against the hill and the Finham weight.
Southam and Finham both lost their bindings a couple of times resulting in no pushing in the scrum. With that in mind, the number 8 of Finham mis-controlled the ball for Josh E to rip it from the scrum half and Austin O. to spring forward and dive on the ball. A great opportunists try. Joe C made several great runs playing fullback and as the squad was rotated the go to man George P came into his own with great ruck positioning. Tom W. coming on part way through showed a ball handling forward that is determined to produce  100% effort. Charlie F was far more decisive and made some great runs on the wing. Thomas H tackled well and produced pace to cover in the backs. Oli G ripped and secured ball like the star he is. James E went to wing later and gained the plaudits finishing off a great run by Harry L who correctly gave the ball to James for an easy finish, ( simple but one of the champagne moments of the game). James’ other try 5 minutes after was less easy as he magnificently caught a wide ball off his toes to complete his brace. Lewis S showed his worth as tries started to flow with a great run from the pacey prop, popping the ball to Josh E at 9 who weaved his way through. This was stopped 5 meters out. Will  H rucked well and Charlie S strode over for an easy finish. The best team try of the game came from a scrum where a centre move was put into play by Sam R at fly half. A dummy run and a pass out of the back showed Harry L to the line, like a knife through butter. A great moment.
The last try came from man of the match Charlie S who gathered his own kick and chase with skill and finesse to score a corker. All of the lads deserve credit for grafting hard and tackling well. Most notably new cap Charlie P who showed grit and determination. Caius T also got his first full debue and rucked well. Scrummaging needs to be worked on. Don’t let someone scare you before you do the basics well, (which in the end you did). The next game against Ashlawn will hopefully indicate improvements in key areas.  credit also should go to a Finham team that tackled well with a number of great players, notably the captain. Keep it up lads.
Training will take place on the Thursday.
Tries Charlie S (4) Harry L (1) James E (2) Austin O (1). Man of the match – Charlie S.
