Year 8 Football

On Monday evening, the year 8 football team hosted Stratford in a league fixture. The team were confident on building upon the last win against Myton and started brightly, with a few long range attempts from Oli, Harry and Ronan all testing the goalkeeper. Southam continued to dominate and kept the ball well through Spike, Archie and Jasper who were all looking to start attacks from wide positions. The defence and goalkeeper were rarely threatened but any long ball played over the top was comfortably dealt with by Charlie and Noah who looked to use Spike and Oliver to keep the ball. Southam did finally get the breakthrough 1 minute before half time with Josh capitalising on a misplaced clearance before holding off the defender before shooting into the net. Half time 1-0 to Southam.
Southam started the second half well and created multiple chances without converting. Joe and Reshawn were seeing lots of the ball out wide creating space for Leo to run into. Unfortunately, Stratford got themselves level with Southam giving the ball away in their defensive third before the striker calmly shot past Jasper from 20 yards. This didn’t deter Southam and almost instantly they hit back. A great passage of passing football allowed Archie to drive to the byline and pull the ball across for Josh to tap in his 2nd of the game. A really well worked team goal. From here Southam looked in control. Joe’s fast feet and darting run resulted in him being brought down in the area for a penalty. Oli stepped up and smashed the ball into the top corner to make the score 3-1 to Southam.
Another good team performance and win in the league with some very good individual performances. Joint men of the match goes to Josh for tenacious running and Archie for always looking to get on the ball and be positive. Well done gents.
See you all at training next Monday.
Well Done
Mr Turton
