YEAR 10 FOOTBALL

Monday evening saw the year 10 football team travel to Trinity to play their second game of the season. The boys were hopeful to put in a strong performance following a loss on penalties in their fixture last week vs The Ferrers school in the National Cup.

The team started well with Leo finishing a chance in the first minute after good play from Ronan. A minute later Leo saw an effort bounce off the post before he then turned provider for Ronan to score the second goal. Charlie ventured out of defence and played a lovely through ball to Oli W who beat his man to put in a fine cross for Leo to grab his second goal of the afternoon. Jay nearly got in on the action but was denied by the first of a number of good saves from the Trinity keeper. A fourth goal did follow after Leo was denied his hat trick Oli W smashed the rebound into the top corner. Another good save from the keeper gave Ronan the chance to whip a corner straight on to Harry’s head to make it 5-0. The midfield were commanding and producing some good football, Spike was quickest to pounce on a rebound from Archie’s fierce drive to slot home. Leo did get his hat trick goal after a lovely lofted chip from Harry allowed Leo the opportunity to finish. The scoring didn’t stop there, Jay got on the score sheet with a rocket into the top corner that ricocheted off both posts it was struck that hard! Leo grabbed the last goal of the first half rounding the keeper before tucking into an empty net. Half time score 9-0.

After a quick half time chat to continue playing the ball round and working on things from training Ronan fired in the 10th with a well placed finish. Southam continued to press and win the ball high up the pitch, Reshawn retaining the ball well in the midfield. Jay then scored another fine goal from distance before Spike grabbed his second after a neat pass from Leo. Ronan netted again after good team play down the right hand side from Noah and Spike. The scoring was completed by Archie who beat a number of players before scoring past the keeper.

Final score 14-0.

A mention must go to the back 4 of Fred, Jasper, Noah and Charlie who played a nice high line and allowed the opportunity for the midfield to start the attacks through Oli R who kept picking the ball up in deeper positions.

A great team performance with some spectacular goals thrown in. The team play again on Wednesday in a cup match vs Studley.

Well done gents and thanks to the parents who came to support.
