Southam’s Spot Kick Success!!
Wednesday evening saw the year 10’s travel to Studley in the District Cup on the back of a comprehensive win on Monday evening. The boys were in full confidence of another strong performance.
In a fairly even first half there were limited chances but a terrific save from Jasper and a double goal line clearance from Archie and Fred kept the score at 0-0 heading into the break.
The second half started with Josh chasing down the defender and nearly deflecting the ball into the net. Southam played better football and were playing in neat triangles and created a couple of chances but couldn’t score. The back 3 were marshalled fantastically by Captain Noah and restricted Studley to long range efforts. A goal was scored against the run of play with a free kick scored from 30 yards out giving Studley a 1-0 lead. The team didn’t let their heads drop and hit back instantly after a great long ball from Oli was latched onto by Josh who was fouled by the keeper giving Southam the chance to equalise from the spot; which Oli gladly did. The game continued to be end to end and neither team could find a winner.
Straight to penalties.
After the disappointment of last weeks result, all 4 of the Southam penalty takers took confident penalties (Noah, Ronan, Oli and Harry) and scored giving Southam a 4-2 win!
I’m very proud of how the team reacted after going a goal down and also how they put last weeks penalty loss behind them to get the win tonight!
Well done gents
