On Wednesday afternoon the year 10 rugby team travelled to Sutton Coldfield to play against Fairfax. The team were expecting a tough physical game, which was certainly the case.
The first score didn’t come until the 23rd minute and it came against the run of play with a fantastic break from Charlie releasing Tom to beat 2 defenders and score under the posts. Sam converted to give a a 7-0 lead.
This lead was soon wiped out as Fairfax scored almost straight away from kick off after good forward play.
Half time score 7-7.
Fairfax scored the first try of the second half after a turnover allowed their backs to get on the ball and score.
From here Southam galvanised themselves and came back a different team. Tackles were hard and the forwards rucked brilliantly. Ephraim secured good ball and carried well building a platform for Charlie to finish well.
The final score of the game after Harry’s tremendous mazy run from inside his own half allowed a pass to Josh to dive over the line.
This lead to 5 minutes of backs to the wall defending but Southam held out for the win.
A fantastic effort and response to going down in the game to win 17-12.
Mr Turton’s ⭐️player- Tommy B for tremendous work at the breakdown.
Well done gents.
Mr Turton
