Tuesday evening saw the year 10 football team host Kenilworth in the district cup semi-final. Southam started brightly and created an early chance after a cleared ball from Charlie was turned inside and Harry shot just over the bar. Southam had to defend resolutely and organised their back line well through Dom, Charlie, Ronan and Jay. Southam scored the first goal of the game when a through ball was latched onto by Josh who initially saw his attempt saved before collecting the rebound and slotting home. 1-0 Southam. For the remainder of the first half the team defended well and kept Kenilworth at bay including a great bit of goalkeeping from Jasper!
The second half continued in much the same way with Kenilworth having large amounts of possession but Southam defending resolutely. Further good saves from Jasper denied Kenilworth scoring. Southam almost took the game out of sight when great link up play saw Harry’s shot saved brilliantly by the Kenilworth keeper before a perfectly weighted through ball allowed Leo to strike but unfortunately hit the inside of the post and rebound out! Southam held firm and won 1-0 .
A frantic, yet fantastic performance from the year 10s sees them reach the cup final for the first time. Well done to all involved for defending brilliantly and listening to instructions! Man of the match goes to Ronan for a terrific performance at the heart of the defence!
A very proud Mr Turton.
