A nail biting finish against NLS
The year 11 netballers had their first match of the season this evening against NLS.
The first quarter saw a few nerves from both teams with the ball going end to end with interceptions from both teams. The whistle went with NLS leading 9-7.
After a short break and a little chat the girls got back on and quickly drew it back to 9-9 with outstanding shooting from Holly. The feeding from Ella and Libi was spot on creating less turnovers in the attacking end. At half time it was 17-15 to Southam.
Third quarter started a little wobbly and saw NLS get back into the game. But thanks to Tallie, Katie and Izzy in defence they managed to get a few intercepts which allowed Southam to nudge back into the lead thanks to Phoebe and Holly maintaining their shooting accuracy, going into the last quarter 2 ahead 24-22.
The last quarter saw NLS return to their strongest combination from the first quarter and they very quickly pulled back to a draw. Luckily the defensive duo of Gemma and Izzy managed to reduce the goals and Ella and Katie worked hard down court ensuring we stayed in the game.
The final score was 30-30.
Oppositions player of the match: Ella
Coaches player of the match: Izzy (a fantastic last quarter!!)
Well done girls, what a lovely start to the season. You all played well and represented the school extremely well.
