On Monday evening the year 11 netball team had their county tournament at Kings High. The county tournament is always a tough one where we play the very best schools in the county. 

First match saw us face Shottery, the Southam girls took a while to get going but once they found their rhythm and slowed the play down there were some really good passages of play. Second half saw Chloe H and Chloe S dominate in the defensive circle and take interceptions all over the court which brought Southam back into the game, but unfortunately time wasn’t on their side and they lost 9-5. 

Second game saw us face Higham Lane, the girls stepped up and had some really good attacking play with Freya and Holly pairing well in the shooting end. Scarlett, Sophie and Liberti worked well as a 3 bringing the ball down court and setting up more opportunity in the attack end. After the 14mins Southam managed to win 10-5.

The third game saw us face Alcester Grammar, a school this team always seem to struggle against. As usual the Southam girls dropped their heads going onto court and saw Alcester sneak a 5 goal lead at half time. However after a pep talk at half time the girls went back on court with their heads held high and saw Chloe S take an initial intercept to set the second half off well. Abby and Holly got into their flow which allowed them eat into the advantage Alcester had. Unfortunutly they ran out of time to catch up but with a last second penalty Abby managed to bring the gap down to 3, 12-9 to Alcester. 

The penultimate game was against Rugby school. The Southam side again showed some real promise with The defensive team of Scarlet, Chloe S and Chloe H applying pressure and taking interceptions throughout. Freya came on court and made her mark on the game and showed good consistency with her shooting. This time they missed out 10-4, however the score didn’t reflect the high quality 15mins. 

The final game saw us face last years champions Kings High. The Kings High team played some exceptional netball, a real display of talent. But the girls dug in deep and tried to match up to the pace, Scarlet and Chloe S, managed to apply some pressure to the shots but the Kings High shooters were extremely accurate. 

Overall the girls finished 5th, but with a fantastic standard of play. You should be really proud of your performances throughout, especially Freya and Liberti who both played in this team for the first time.
