The first morning consisted of high ropes and trapeze challenges, but the afternoon is what we really come to Condover hall for, the netball.
Southam 1 had a steady first match, coming up against Ladyhawks4. Amelia taking the first shot comfortably and getting her eye in early gave Southam an impressive 7-3 lead at half time. The accuracy continued into the second half and with accurate feeds from Sophie and a Scarlett meant Southam could extend their lead out and won 15-4. The second game was of a similar fashion with Scarlet, Chloe and Chloe working as a trio in defence to stop Hereford more than 5 attempts on goal throughout the full 16mins. Seeing Southam top the table with another win, 29-1. The third game saw the team face Concord, some beautiful netball was on display watching the ball flow through the court with great movement from Abby and Scarlett seeing another dominating performance from the girls, 18-2. The final match of the day saw Southam take on Jaguars, this match saw outstanding defence from Chloe and Scarlet to keep the ball out of the circle, this was matched up by great consistent shooting from Holly, Abby and Amelia.
The match of the day saw Southam 1 play Southam 2, in a head to head match. It was very scrappy but well contested seeing the final score 21-4 to Southam 1. The score did not reflect the netball on court.
The evenings entertainment consisted of the battle of the lazer quest, where Mrs Turton’s team beat Miss Owens 2-0.
Southam 1 went into day 2 in first position having not played the 2 tough teams. First up on the Sunday was Ladyhawks3, and the girls came out firing with a whopping 26-2! Amelia and Holly getting some vital shots in to improve their overall goal difference. However we knew the next two games were going to be tough from the first days results. Next up were Northwich Saturns, a physical and fast team. It was a huge battle from start to finish but unfortunately Saturn’s managed to turn over and convert one of our centre passes resulting in a 14-11 loss. The third match of the day saw them face Shottery Panthers a team who the girls had faced earlier in the week at the county tournament and lost to. Again it was another tough battle from end to end with off the ball battles all over court. This time the better team was Panthers and we had to admit defeat, 14-8. The last game of the round robin saw Southam1 face Northwich Comets, there were a lot of tired bodies on court and the girls had to pull themselves up from 2 straight defeats but they managed a 10-6 win, putting them 3rd overall and into the semifinals.
In the semifinals they drew Northwich Saturns, but the girls went into the game positive and with some positional changes from the first time they played them. Putting Sophie at WD allowed for additional turn overs allowing Southam to gain extra possession. They managed to slow the play right down and control the game sneaking a 10-8 win and ticket to the final against Panthers.
After the previous defeat we tried a different line up, this time matching Scarlet up in GK. At half time the girls were down by 4 and a change in tactics was required. Chloe H stepped into the GS position for the second time in the tournament (usually being GK), Chloe came on with aggression and passion and managed to claw back the deficit with the help of Holly to make it 10-10 at the end of normal time. An additional 4mins was played and unfortunately Panthers managed an intercept that handed them the win.
A fantastic effort from all 8 of the girls all weekend! You played with your heart on your sleeves and really left everything you had out on court! I am super proud of how well you played and how much you’ve grown as a team!
Thank you for a lovely weekend and conducting yourselves in such a mature manner.
Well done,
Mrs Turton and Miss Owen
