On Monday evening the year 11 netball team took on Campion at home. The girls had a wobbly first quarter with a close score of 6-3 after the first period. A few scrappy balls and quite a lot of contact slowed the play down and didn’t allow Southam to get into their rhythm.
The second quarter began and Southam had a flurry of turn overs from Izzy and Minnie in defence that allowed Southam more attempts on goal, luckily Freya and Phoebe had their eye in early and were able to convert a lot of the turn over balls. Some amazing defence on the centre pass saw Ella take 2 early intercepts not even allowing Campion into their attacking end. This flow continued into the third quarter which saw Katie take to the court for the first time in GK position, however she did not disappoint gaining an intercept at the earliest moment on Campion’s first attack. The turnovers continued with Tallie, Ella and Phoebe all gaining possession through great defensive play.
Libby started the final period of play with a quick and fluent attack finding Freya at ease under the post to continue the goal fest. The defensive unit (Katie, Minnie and Izzy) had managed to restrict Campion from scoring any goals in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and only allowed 1 in the final passage of play. The final score was 25-4 to Southam.
Another great game by the girls and I am so pleased with how much you have improved individually and as a team over the last few years. It was lovely to see some of your team mates who weren’t in the squad coming along to support the team, thanks girls.
Well done, Mrs Turton
