The year 11 netball team had one of their final matches as a team this evening against Higham Lane.
First quarter the Southam girls came out of the blocks firing. With some fantastic feeds from Scarlett and Sophie popping the ball over the defences head to Amelia. The defence were on top form for the rebounds seeing both Chloe’s obtaining every one. Finishing the first quarter 7-1 up.
Amelia’s hot hand continued into the second quarter making her really difficult to mark. The Higham girls had a stronger second quarter with more contest down the court. Scarlet managed to pick up a few cross court interceptions which gave Southam the advantage (15-7).
The girls continued to work hard into the third quarter with the attacking unit of Abby, Scarlett and Sophie moving the ball around to get the ball to Amelia. Defence stayed tight putting pressure on off the ball to cause Higham to make mistakes going into the last quarter (24-12).
A mix up on court was needed by Southam allowing Scarlet to move back into her favoured position GK, where she took 3 flying intercepts to deny the GS a shooting opportunity. The shuffle made it more difficult for us to adapt as it moved Chloe H into GA a position she’d never played for the school. Which meant the girls had to change their style of play. None the less they played well in a shortened last quarter due to injury. The final score was 28-17.
A great game tonight girls, the standard was brilliant. It’s lovely to see how much you’ve all improved since year 7 and really gelled as a team. Well done,
Mrs Turton
