Tuesday evening saw the year 11 football team host Studley in a league and cup double.
The game started disastrously for Southam conceding a goal after 90 seconds. This sparked Southam into life and they nearly equalised instantly after Josh worked tirelessly to hassle the defender into a mistake allowing Oli a pop shot from the edge of the box. The game was played at a frantic pace with neither team settling on the ball. There were few chances created until Oli curled a cross into the box which the defender poked past the keeper to gift Southam an equaliser. Despite further good work from Tom and Leo on the wings, few clear cut chances were created. Archie was unfortunate to see his headed effort cleared off the line shortly before half time.
The second half continued in the same fashion with the defences coming out on top. Noah, Fred and Charlie were backed up by the excellent Jasper to keep Studley at bay. Jack and Jasper continued to win the ball back and this aided the final goal of the game being scored. A long ball upfield was chased down by Charlie and Josh causing the defender to strike the ball cleanly into the bottom corner to give Southam a 2-1 win with 25 seconds of the game to go.
A very bizarre game where all 3 goals scored were own goals but Southam progress into the semi finals and now sit top of the league having played all of their games.
Well done gents, a very tough game played with lots of desire and commitment.
Man of the match – Jasper J for a tremendous performance.
